The Yorkshire County Cricket Club (YCCC) is delighted to have received an award for the Best International Men’s Spectator Experience at the annual Business of Cricket Awards (BOCAs) 2023.
Eighteen awards were presented at the BOCAs ceremony, hosted at the Seat Unique Stadium in Bristol on Thursday 9 November.
The BOCAs provide an opportunity to reward the innovation and best practice of the First-Class Counties and Marylebone Cricket Club, as well as well as highlighting the work of unsung heroes over the past year.
England’s Baz-ball-style-win in the 3rd Ashes Test at Headingley was spearheaded by some electric bowling from Durham’s Mark Wood and an important 75 from Yorkshire’s own Harry Brook. The victory kept The Ashes alive for England and was reminiscent of the 2019 Ben Stokes Test, ensuring Headingley remains a fortress for England against Australia.
The Test was a sell out for all four days and Headingley was rocking from the first delivery on the Thursday to the moment Chris Woakes scythed Mitchell Starc through point for the win.
Stephen Vaughan, Chief Executive of YCCC, said: “I have experienced Ashes Tests at other grounds, but this was my first experience of an Ashes Test at Headingley, and it was something I’ll never forget. It’s an honour to receive this award and great recognition for the effort that all the staff and volunteers put in to deliver a successful Test. The feedback from both sets of players and coaches was excellent too. We are now even more excited for 2024 when we host Pakistan Men’s and Women’s team and Australia Men’s team.
“We are already planning how we can build on this and create a similar experience next year when we host Pakistan Men’s and Women’s team and Australia Men’s team. We also host the first Women’s Ashes Test at Headingley in 2027, which is a further opportunity to showcase Headingley as the best Test ground in the country to visit.”
Adrian Mirfakhrai, Yorkshire CCC’s Creative Manager, who accepted the award on behalf of the Club alongside Multimedia Designer Ben Wickett, said: “It was a special night for cricket. To see the hard work put in from all 18 First Class counties to deliver and progress cricket in 2023 was inspirational, and to come out with an award was amazing.
“The Ashes is always a highlight in the calendar, but the work put in behind the scenes to deliver four successful days of cricket was immense. This award is testament to everyone at YCCC and their hard work putting on one of the biggest sporting events in the world.”
