Women have been charged to develop a visionary mindset when handling their businesses and take advantage of the benefits of collaborating with one another.
This was at Women High Achievers Trybe (WHAT) Conference 2023, themed Elevating Women Enterprenuers: Strategies for Success, in Lagos.
Convener, Kiki Okewale, debunked the notion that women don’t support each other, adding that they can make so much progress when they collaborate.
She encouraged every woman to dream big, saying that their dreams are valid and they can achieve what they set their minds to.
“Don’t just dream, do the work. Draw a vision board and ask your self how tou can move from your current point to where you want to be,” she said.
Business Woman, Ibukun Awosika said to be a successful female enterprenuer, one needs to ensure that their interest, passion, skills, talent and resources match the market they want to function in.
She listed ideation process, planning and execution stage as three key areas that determine how successful one can be in their venture.
On ideation, she emphasised that all available options may not be suitable to the enterprenuer, she therefore urged the women to be diligent with the process of trying to choose the best option.
“Apply the SWOT test to all your available options to arrive at a conclusion. Don’t get carried away by your strengths and don’t see your weakness as a disadvantage because this helps you have a 360 degree view of all the issues.
“Opportunities are positive, but you must know that every opportunity is not realisable in every time zone. So identify if an opportunity is for the season, the future or one that requires additional resources and skills to extract,” she said.
Awosika also tasked business owners to be open minded and find the right human capital for every stage of their business.
Chief Executive Officer, Women Radio, Toun Okewale Sonaiya, while urging women to Identify their market, customers and suitable media to push their business narrative, she asked them to use media to support their business, collaborate and support each other.
She added that women should find strategic ways to thrive and survive even as hard times are being amplified.
Clinical Hypnotherapist, Adeola Kingsley-James said that a visionary mindset has the power to change the world and advised women to identify factors that hinder their vision.
She listed such factors as worry about the future, fear, consistent caution, catastrophising experiences, comparing and always seeing one’s limitations.
She tasked women to be adaptable with their goals and choose their community wisely.
Founder, Brandfusion, Atinuke Babatunde, said branding is about letting people see you as the only solution to their problem, adding that it is not limited to logo, business name, or colour, but should tell a story.
According to her, one needs to be strategic when choosing a business name as it can make our break the venture. Your brand name ideally should not be longer than two syllabus. Next is colour. Colors have an implication on how customers react to you, so it is important to pick the right ones. Logo helps build brand awareness so it is a safe option to have one.
“When choosing a brand name, it should be short and simple to remember, do not offend people, she added.
Social Media strategist, Folake Kehinde, said the easiest way to sell on social media is to be one’s self. She listed the four major actions to take to make money on social media as developing writing, speaking, picture and podcast skills.
“Work on your writing skill. If you cannot write, you have to speak. If you cannot speak, then know how to take pictures. If not do podcast.
Emphasising the need to invest money into the media, she advised the women to embrace running sponsored posts, give or pay blogs to post their content.
