Mr G’s presentation has left business tycoon Anand Mahindra wondering if it is a comedy show or a real news bulletin. Sharing the clip on Twitter, Mahindra wrote: “Can someone PLEASE tell me this is a comedy show and not a real news bulletin. Either way, I wish our TV was this entertaining…”
Clad in a grey and white suit, and a lavalier microphone, he reads out the news, “Now, let us get back to business. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced earlier tonight his new Cabinet.” As he lists out the ministers’ names, he fumbles. He finds it difficult to pronounce the name of Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni; Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Maropene Ramokgopa and Minister in the Presidency responsible for Electricity Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa.
As he goes on to make another gaffe, he says, “beg your pardon”, and attempts to pronounce the name of Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies Mondli Gungubele, only to fail. Finally, while saying the name of Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Thembi Nkadimeng, he gives up and admits that those names are really difficult and switches to a short break.
The clip triggered laughter online and many assumed it to be a real news show. A social media user commented, “It is ‘Khomedi’ News.” Another user wrote, “Hilarious… Thanks for sharing this masterpiece.” A third commented, “This is a news anchor’s nightmare.”
