Windsor’s owner, Kevin Stott, has provided fans with an update over the potential sale of the club, remarking that he now has two compelling plans to choose between
Last week Stott reiterated his commitment to sell the club, should he find someone with the right resources and business plan to take the Royalists forward on and off the field.
He believes he might have found that group, having been liaising with ‘successful entrepreneurs’ with a ‘robust’ business plan for the past few months.
However, in his latest update for fans, he says he met with former boss Mark Cooper on Thursday to discuss his plans for the club, adding that he now has to consider the potential merits of two ‘compelling but very different’ ownership plans. A non-disclosure agreement prevents him from revealing more about the initial bid, while Cooper has so far decided not to comment on his own proposals to take over at Stag Meadow. A successful businessman in his own right, Cooper has built up a chain of estate agents in the West London area and backed by a consortium, many fans of the club would like to see him take on the reins from Stott. Both groups have reportedly discussed the possibility of gaining a long-term lease for the land at Stag Meadow from the Crown Estate, something that would be necessary to enable them to invest in the club’s playing facilities or bring in grant money from organisations such as the National Lottery and Football Foundation.
Stott said last week he hoped to be able to agree the sale of the club to new owners ahead of the start of next season, adding that would be the perfect scenario for all parties.
He’s been involved with the club in various roles for 19 years and took ownership of the Royalists when they reformed as Windsor FC in 2011.
Posting the club update on Saturday evening, Stott said: “I met with Mark on Thursday and he took me through his plans for the club – thank you Mark for your time and energy. I also want to publicly acknowledge Mark for his efforts during his time as manager. Very few people on the outside will understand just how much skill, commitment and determination it takes to manage a team. I also look back and think I could have done a better job at acknowledging Mark for his efforts at the time.
“In terms of potential new ownership, we now have two quite different proposals on the table. They’re both compelling in their separate ways. I will be taking the new few days to think through the advantages of each.
“I’ve always believed that Windsor FC can and has been a positive force for good in the community and I think both ownership groups would continue with that approach.”
On the field, Windsor have had a difficult season, with the club slipping second bottom of the table following a terrible run of results. Mick Woodham’s side weren’t in action on Saturday, but were due to visit local rivals Burnham yesterday evening (Wednesday). In his update, Stott revealed that the short break had given Woodham a window to try and strengthen the squad. He’s hopefully they may be able to do that for the run in, with the Royalists needing to stay above bottom club Oxhey Jets to more than likely preserve their status as a Combined Counties Premier Division North side.
