The money is part of a £257m of funding and will be invested in a variety of resources including support for resettlement workers, and children’s workers helping the children who have witnessed domestic abuse as well as towards flats and properties from Julian House.

This helps provide safe accommodation for male and female victims.

Cabinet member for Public Health, Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling, said: “This additional Government funding will be vital to supporting people who suffer from domestic abuse, as well as investing in work to help prevent this devastating behaviour from happening in the first place.”

The funding is a part of the Levelling UP, Housing and Communities fund to local authorities from 2023 – 2025 and government-set criteria will help how the council spends the money based on local needs in conjunction with its Wiltshire Domestic Abuse Strategy.

Funds will also be allocated to training to improve the understanding of Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller cultures, and to support family drug and alcohol workers to help those impacted by substance abuse and domestic abuse. Community connectors will support victims helping them to rebuild their lives and risk psychologists will support those with the addition of mental health issues.

Cllr Ian Blair-Pilling added: “This additional Government funding will be vital to supporting people who suffer from domestic abuse, as well as investing in work to help prevent this devastating behaviour from happening in the first place.

“Our focus is to enhance and strengthen the offer of the existing contracts we have in place, ensuring we can do even more to help those who need it as quickly as possible. We work with a range of specialist providers who are experts in their field, and we’re pleased to be able to give them the opportunities and tools to expand their work.

“An aim in our business plan is for Wiltshire to be a place we are safe, and the staff and work we’re investing in will make a big difference.”

More than £800,000 has been allocated to spend in 2023/2024 and more than £865,000 will be invested in 2024/2025.
