Willem Dafoe’s role as Norman Osborn/the Green Goblin is beloved, especially after his return in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home. Recently, the actor stated that he isn’t against returning as the villain again in the future.
While speaking with Inverse, the actor said that “if everything was right,” he would be open to playing the Green Goblin in the future. He specifically explained that he especially liked the “double role” aspect of the character, as Osborn is depicted in both movies as mentally torn between his regular identity and that of the Goblin.
“If everything was right, sure,” Dafoe stated. “I mean, that’s a great role. I liked the fact that it’s a double role both times. Twenty years ago, and fairly recently, both times [were] very different experiences, but I had a good time on both.”
Spider-Man: No Way Home saw the return of Tom Holland as the beloved titular wall-crawler, along with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. It was directed by Jon Watts from a screenplay written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
It also starred Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Tony Revolori, and Hannibal Buress (Tag) along with Sony’s Spider-Man Universe alums Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, J.K. Simmons, Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe, Jamie Foxx, Thomas Haden Church, and Rhys Ifans.
Spider-Man: No Way Home ended its run in the theater with a worldwide gross of over $1.9 billion at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2021, the sixth-highest-grossing film of all time, and the highest-grossing Spider-Man film to date.
