Was Rob McElhenney in movie with Ryan Reynolds?

Outside of the streaming show Welcome to Wrexham about their co-ownership of the Welsh club, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have not been in any movies or television shows together.

The two began their relationship randomly, as Reynolds messaged McElhenney about an elaborate dance he performs in Season 13 of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. However, the two never met in person until the bid to buy Wrexham.

During an interview with BuzzFeed Celeb, Reynolds was asked if he would like to appear on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia to which he replies “Hell yes.” He then jokes that he could play a romantic interest to McElhenney’s character “Mac” who has been out as gay for a number of seasons.

Rob McElhenney convinced Ryan Reynolds to buy Wrexham

Ryan Reynolds has been quite public about the fact that the idea to buy a football club was actually Rob McElhenney’s idea.

According to British comedian Humphrey Kerr, who is a writer for Mythic Quest, McElhenney has been slowly gaining interest in football for years.

“I’m laying claim to the fact (Rob’s) interest in football derives from several years of teasing me for watching football during our lunch breaks at work,” Kerr told the BBC. “Until eventually, just by pure osmosis, I got him interested in the game to the degree that he decides to buy a football team.”

“One day Rob sends me an email that outlines his plan to buy a lower-league club and grow it into something more resembling a global force,” Reynolds told The Athletic. “I just saw the path that he laid out, the phosphorescence in the water so to speak, and I was in. I just thought it was so unexpected and so interesting and I love building businesses and this is a business.”
