(ANSA) – ROME, APR 4 – European Economy Commissioner Paolo
Gentiloni said Tuesday that the EU executive would work with the
Italian government to iron out any problems with its National
Resilience and Recovery Plan (NRRP).
The Commission has delayed a decision on the approval of a third
tranche of funding while it assesses Italy’s progress on the
post-COVID plan to make the Italian economy Greener and more
modern with projects financed with the help of almost 200
billion euros in EU grants and low-interest loans.
“It’s necessary to get cracking, rather than get worried,”
Gentiloni said at an event kicking off Pavia’s stint as Italy’s
business culture capital.
“We are convinced that the NRRP is the antidote to stagnant
growth.
“We clearly have to work together to achieve this objective.
“The Italian government is convinced of this too.
“The European Commission will work with the government to make
these programmes implementable.
“I’m well aware that there is the risk of delays, but I also
know that this is our priority”.
Premier Giorgia Meloni said Monday she was not worried about
delays in the NRRP.
She also dismissed the hypothesis that Rome might forego some of
the NRRP. funding because it would not be possible to complete
all the projects within the set time frame. (ANSA).
