Warner Bros International Television Production (WBITVP) is to consolidate its Scandinavian business in Stockholm, resulting in the departure of Fredrik Hillerbrand, CEO of the group’s Danish arm.
Hillerbrand will leave the company in the coming months, having joined in late 2016 from Strong Productions (fka Strix), where he was CEO and spent over a decade.
Future productions for the Danish market will be managed from the Swedish capital, overseen by MD of WBITVP in Sweden Johan Idering, who as well as the Swedish and Danish markets is also responsible for Norway.
The decision was made based on the ongoing uncertainty in the Danish media market and the rising costs of content production.
“It has not been an easy decision for the company; it was made with a heavy heart. But we must make well-founded decisions to consolidate our activities in Scandinavia as a result of the massive decline in work in the Danish production industry,” Ronald Goes, said executive VP and head of WBITVP.
All existing commitments to ongoing productions will be respected, according to WBITVP.
Denmark’s production industry was put on hold for months last year after a dispute over rights remuneration between producers and buyers, with Netflix, TV2 and Viaplay all temporarily suspending production in the territory.
After months of negotiations an agreement was reached in late 2022, but the disruption continues to impact growth and employment in the business.
