A week of change at Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) in Europe has continued with a new president and MD appointed in the UK and Ireland and a new programme director for Denmark.

Andrew Georgiou

Andrew Georgiou has been named as the head of WBD’s media business in the UK and Ireland. He also retains his position as president and MD of WBD Sports Europe, which operates both Eurosport across Europe and TNT Sports in the UK and Ireland.

He is replacing Antonio Ruiz, who has held the role since June 2022.

The appointment sees him helm the company in the region with channel brands including Discovery, TLC, Quest, Quest Red, Really, Cartoon Network, Eurosport and the newly launched TNT Sports as well as WBD’s streaming service Discovery+. He also has responsibility for consumer products, home entertainment and will support the local Warner Bros theatrical business.

Georgiou joined the company in 2019 as president of Eurosport, arriving from Lagardère Sports & Entertainment where he was the CEO.

Gerhard Zeiler, international president at WBD, said: “Andrew has excelled at the business, being both commercially savvy and able to get things done. As we enter another important period during these transformative times for our broader business, I’m looking forward to working even more closely with Andrew to shape our path and best position our company for continued and longer-term success.”

The move follows the surprise announcement earlier this week that Priya Dogra, president and MD for EMEA at WBD, is to leave the US-based company later this year.

Kristian Porsgaard Rosasco

Meanwhile, WBD Denmark has appointed Kristian Porsgaard Rosasco as the new programme director for Danish-produced content. In his new role, Porsgaard Rosasco is responsible for developing locally produced content for WBD Denmark’s local channels.

He is now part of the Danish management group and will report to Pil Gundelach Brandstrup, the Nordic programme director at WBD.

“I look forward to collaborating with the industry’s many talented people and creating high-quality programmes that will engage our viewers across platforms,” Porsgaard Rosasco said in a statement.

Porsgaard Rosasco brings solid experience to his new post. He most recently held the position of programme editor for WBD Denmark, head of lifestyle and crime at Laud People, as well as producer and development editor for Warner Bros ITVP Denmark.

Previously, he also worked for several years at Danish pubcaster DR, where he was editor and host of various news and current affairs shows.
