A Wallsend man has launched his own business as an emergency response locksmith – available 24/7.

David Walker, 41, created ‘NE Lock NE Time’ so that he could be closer to his family on a regular basis, after previously working as a long distance truck driver. After working as a taxi driver for a few months after this, David decided that he wanted to make a change in his life, and a friend brought to his attention the demand for locksmiths in the region.

He worked towards his NVQ level 3 equivalent qualification, the highest a locksmith can get, and began the process of creating the business from scratch. After already completing a few jobs despite the newness of the business, David’s primary goal is to survive the first year and create connections in the local community.

Branding has also been a focus of his, with a website up and running and his Newcastle United inspired logo adding the finishing touch. One of the main selling points of David’s business is that he is available 24/7 and covers the whole of the North East.

He is looking to connect to letting agents in the region, with hopes of further widening his network, as well as wanting to get the word out to as many people as possible that he is available.

David has spoken about what made him make the career change, and what his hopes are for the future, saying: “Firstly, I was fed up of being away from my family, and I was also very down in the dumps and feeling lost in the working side of my life. Since I have started this business, it has given me a new lease of life and I couldn’t be happier.

“My ultimate dream is to build the business up enough that I will be able to pay my son a wage, and we can work together as part of this. I have a positive feeling about this and I will make it happen, I have the bit between my teeth now and I want to keep going.
