When patients with tuberculosis (TB) begin TB treatment at government-run healthcare facilities in Haryana, Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence (Wadhwani AI) has announced the deployment of an AI solution to predict the risk of loss to follow-up (LFU) and mortality among TB patients.
The high-risk patients identified by AI will receive intensive care over the course of six to twelve months of treatment from the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) staff.
Wadhwani AI created the AI solution, Comprehensive Loss to Follow-Up and Mortality Prediction (CLAMP-TB), as part of the TRACE-TB Project, which is funded by USAID. The Haryana NTEP staff will use CLAMP-TB.
In order to facilitate the use of CLAMP-TB at roughly 157 government health facilities throughout the state of Haryana, Wadhwani AI conducted training sessions for NTEP staff in the Gurugram, Bhiwani, Ambala, and Rohtak districts prior to the study’s launch. Nearly 12,000 high-risk patients will receive targeted TB treatments over the course of the following 15 to 18 months thanks to the use of this AI solution by the District TB Officers, data entry workers, Senior Treatment Supervisors, and TB Health Visitors.
