Vietnam Airlines, the flag carrier for Vietnam, has signed a memorandum of understanding to purchase 50 narrowbody Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft, the carrier announced Tuesday. The carrier offered no further details other than that the deal was “worth billions of dollars.”
Vietnam Airlines currently has 100 aircraft in its fleet, including 65 narrowbody aircraft, serving 97 routes to 21 domestic and 29 international destinations. The “growing demand for single-aisle aircraft” has driven the carrier to acquire an additional 60 aircraft by 2030 and about 100 aircraft, including the Boeing 737 Max, by 2035, according to Vietnam Airlines.
