Danish broadcaster TV2 has hired Viaplay’s Marlene Billie Andreasen as its new senior executive producer at its scripted division.
Andreasen was previously head of scripted content at Viaplay Group, where she headed the Danish drama portfolio for several years.
At TV2 Scripted, Andreasen will join the management team comprising head of drama Mette Nelund, production manager Carsten Sparwath and senior executive producer Pernille Bech Christensen, and will lead the team behind TV2’s Christmas Calendars series and other long-running projects.
As an exec producer at Viaplay, Andreasen produced shows including The Kingdom Exodus, The Dreamer – Karen Blixen and the thriller Those Who Kill.
“I have been looking forward to announcing that earlier this year I received a unique offer that I couldn’t refuse. This means that today I will start a new position with the TV2 drama team,” said Andreasen on social media.
Scripted productions at TV2 are not affected by the upcoming cutbacks being undertaken by the broadcaster, a company representative told C21.
The goal remains to screen around 10 new titles per year. However, the cutbacks have paused non-scripted commissions due to the latest financial report which unveiled the broadcaster has seen a greater decline than expected in advertising revenue on its traditional platforms.
“We maintain high ambitions for scripted and continue our investments in and development of Danish-produced fiction. We are very much looking forward to having Marlene on the team. Marlene processes the right combination of commercial understanding and the strong professional foundation needed to ensure the development of the large, broad narratives,” Nelund said.
Andreasen’s exit from struggling Viaplay is the latest departure the company seen in recent weeks, with senior VP of scripted content Camilla Rydbacken, VP of Nordic operations Azra Osmancevic and head of movies, factual and kids Nicholas Hadley-Kamptz announcing their departures in the past two weeks.
The exits come as Viaplay confirmed it expects to create a total of just 10 series and films in the region in 2024, down 80% on 2021, when the company produced 50 titles.
The cuts to production were made after the group’s second-quarter financial results showed that operating losses for the full year are predicted to be between US$83m and US$102m.
