US Government Starts Review of Beacon Wind Project Near Cape Cod

The Interior Department’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management is beginning a broad environmental review of the proposed Beacon Wind project off the Massachusetts coast, an initial analysis meant to set the stage for a final permitting decision in two years.

  • The 2.4-gigawatt project, a joint partnership between Equinor ASA and BP Plc, is planned in waters 17 nautical miles south of Nantucket, Mass., and approximately 52 nautical miles east of Montauk, N.Y.
