Upstate International, a nonprofit based in Greenville, announced Nov. 16 that one of its programs, World Affairs Council Upstate, received the World Affairs Councils of America’s 2023 World Affairs Council of the Year award.
“In a world traumatized by polarization and political bias, the World Affairs Councils of America make a safe place for education on critical global issues where individuals can be curious, ask questions and formulate their own opinions,” said Tracie Frese, executive director of Upstate International and the World Affairs Council Upstate. “The Upstate International Center is grateful to the team of staff and volunteers that brought the World Affairs Council Upstate program to the point of achievement it received today. We are deeply honored to be named the 2023 World Affairs Council of the Year.”
The program was selected out of more than 90 councils across 40 states. All the programs work to deepen their communities’ global perspective through speaker programs, discussion groups and educational experiences.
