Denmark has said that they will transfer 19 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine in the second quarter of this year.

Ukrainian Air Force are set to receive the fourth generation F-16 multi-role fighter jets and will hit Russia with “game changing weapons.”

The fighter jets and the new weaponry will help Ukraine “gain air superiority” which will use the “guided aviation bombs.”

The Danish Ministry of Defence said on Saturday that once the Ukrainian pilots have completed their training on the American fighter jets they will receive the F-16s.

In August 2023 Denmark announced that they will replace the multi-role F-16s with the new F-35 jets.

The US made F-16s have a far more sophisticated combat capabilities and the current old warplanes that Ukraine and Russia are using.

“Based on the current timetable, the donation should take place in the second quarter of 2024,” the Danish ministry said in a statement.

It’s mainly an issue of finishing the training of Ukrainian personnel who will operate the planes.

The Netherlands has also promised Ukraine with 42 F-16 fighter jets and they are currently training the pilots.

The Netherlands said in August that once certain “prerequisites” have been fulfilled then they will receive the F-16 fighter jets at some point this year.

The Dutch Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren said in an interview with the Yevropeiska Pravda (European Truth) online publication said, “The training of aviators has already begun, but we need to increase it so that you have enough trained personnel for the combat use of F-16 fighters.

“It is also important to resolve the issue of infrastructure, so here in Ukraine, you are simultaneously working on creating the proper infrastructure for this modern aircraft and a very advanced weapons system for it.”

In late December, RBC Ukraine interviewed UAF spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat, he said, “The plans are grandiose. The aircraft is multi-functional, so it will be able to perform many tasks in support of ground forces.”

Joint Chiefs Chair Gen. Mark Milley told reporters at the Pentagon, “The Russians have 1,000 fourth-generation fighters.

“If you’re going to contest Russia in the air, you’re going to need a substantial amount of fourth and fifth-generation fighters.

“So if you look at the cost curve and do the analysis, the smartest thing to have done is exactly what we did do, which is provide a significant amount of integrated air defences to cover the battlespace and deny the Russians the airspace.”
