Ukraine changing war tactics and moving to defence in some areas, says Zelenskyy aide

Ukraine is changing its battle tactics and moving to defence in certain areas while continuing counteroffensive operations in others, a Ukrainian presidential aide has said.

Mykhailo Podolyak, an top adviser to Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said “undoubtedly” the winter conditions and analysis of Russian and Ukrainian capabilities “require adjustments in tactics”.

In a post to X, formerly Twitter, he said Ukrainian troops are “already moving to a different tactic of warfare” on the ground.

“Effective defence in certain areas, continuation of offensive operations in other areas, special strategic operations on the Crimean peninsula and in the Black Sea, and significantly reformatted missile defence of critical infrastructure,” he wrote.

Mr Podolyak warned the winter “won’t be easy” but Ukrainians “are prepared” after last year.

“Now all our resources are being directed to increasing domestic arms production and speeding up negotiations with partners to increase supplies of critical equipment for the new stage of offensive operations,” he said.
