Tynemouth Market dessert stall home to ‘world’s best cheesecake’

If you’re looking for the world’s best cheesecake, you need look no further than Tynemouth Market according to foodies who have fallen in love with one particular stall.

The Dessert Hub has gone down a storm with customers since it first arrived at the food lover’s haven of a market, earning a reputation for particularly delicious treats. The cheesecake connoisseur behind the stall is Chris Logan from Bowburn in County Durham – and if it weren’t for the world turning upside down three years ago, the people of Tynemouth may never have had the chance to try his mouth-watering creations.

Chris, 37, used to be a taxi driver, until he was suddenly left without work when Covid hit back in 2020. “I literally earned nothing overnight, and I had nothing else to go to,” he recalled – but it almost seems as though things were meant to be as he ended up embarking on a very different job.

Chris had always loved cooking in his spare time, and decided that there was no better opportunity to try turning his hobby into a career. He started things off by offering a delivery service sending out Sunday lunches, complete with dessert in the form of cheesecake. “I thought nothing would come of it,” he admitted.

But it wasn’t long until Chris began hearing the same question from all of his regular delivery customers: “Are you still doing desserts?” Realising that his talents lay in dessert-making, he re-jigged the business to be all about sweet treats and hasn’t looked back since.

What began as simply “something to do during Covid” soon flourished into a full-time business, with Chris expanding into making fudges, brownies, blondies, rocky roads and loads more, all hand-made from scratch. From delicious twists on classics – think lemon meringue slices, fruit crumble blondies and black forest cakes – to creations incorporating favourites like Cadbury, Galaxy, Nutella and Biscoff, there’s something to suit every sweet tooth.

Popular staples like tray bakes and millionaire shortbread are always on the menu – and the cheesecakes are still a firm favourite – but self-taught baker Chris now spends a lot of time in the kitchen cooking up unique desserts through a “trial and error” process, so that customers always have something new to look forward to. There will be plenty of seasonal creations popping up at the stall throughout the summer – a perfect excuse to visit the wonderful Tynemouth Market every weekend.

The Dessert Hub has earned loads of stellar reviews from customers on Facebook – many of whom insist that you won’t find better treats anywhere else. “Absolutely unreal flavours chosen from an epic list, absolutely gorgeous finishing touches and the most gorgeous cheesecake I’ve ever eaten,” one person wrote.

Someone else praised: “Best cheesecake I’ve ever had! The problem is choosing which one or two to have! Would highly recommend! I go to the Tynemouth market just to get their cheesecakes.”

“I purchased two cheesecakes at Tynemouth Market on Sunday for myself and my husband. Hands down the best cheesecakes we have ever tried. 10/10 and we can’t wait to try more!!” a third shopper commented.

And another fan said: “The most amazing cheesecakes ever. Wouldn’t go anywhere else for them!!! My weekend treat!”
