Whitehaven Trade Information, which is Facebook-led, offers both new and existing businesses support and comradery within the town of Whitehaven, dealing with anything that may affect the business from criminal behaviour to discussing local footfall.

There are around 50 businesses within the group, all indepedent, each relying on shoppers hitting the streets.

Group admin, Lara Schwab, said: “With such an amazing array of independent businesses in town, it’s a really good group to communicate within.

“All events that are happening in town and anything that can affect the businesses and footfall is discussed.

“It’s also a good way to invite new independents to make them feel welcome,” she said.

The group started in May 2021, in the wake of covid but has since discussed many hot topics such as to how to pay respects when the Queen passed away.

Among those within the group at the moment includes Darling Manor, Charles Menswear, and more recently Tommy-Lee’s Soft Play to name but a few.

Rachel Chambers, owner of Darling Manor, has been a member of the group since it started.

“It’s really nice to connect with other businesses, because of how the town is, lots of the businesses are pretty spread out – so it’s great to be able to be kept in contact.

“It helps keep you on top of little things you wouldn’t really think about,” she said.

All new independent businesses are welcomed to the group when they first open within the town.
