ANKARA, April 27 (Reuters) – Here are news, reports and events that may affect Turkish financial markets on Monday.
The lira traded at 6.9650 against the dollar at 0506 GMT, weakening slightly from Friday’s close of 6.95.
The main BIST 100 share index rose 0.6% on Friday to 98,758.96 points.
GLOBAL MARKETS
Asian shares bounced on Monday as the Bank of Japan (BOJ) announced more stimulus steps to help cushion the economic impact of the coronavirus, while oil took another spill as the world ran short of space to store it all.
CORONAVIRUS
Turkey’s confirmed cases of COVID-19 increased by 2,357 in the past 24 hours, and 99 more people have died, taking the death toll to 2,805, Health Ministry data showed on Sunday. The total number of cases in the country stood at 110,130, the data showed, and 29,140 people have so far recovered from the new coronavirus.
GOVERNMENT SUPPORT
The Turkish government’s steps to support the economy in the face of the coronavirus pandemic have reached a value of 200 billion lira ($28.7 billion), Finance Minister Berat Albayrak said on Saturday.
FOOTBALL LEAGUES
Turkey plans to resume its soccer Super League matches in mid-June and the games may be played without spectators, state media quoted the head of the clubs’ association as saying on Friday.
CABINET MEETING
President Tayyip Erdogan is expected to chair a videoconference meeting of his cabinet to discuss new steps against the coronavirus outbreak and other issues.
