Dragons do deal for Okonkwo
Young Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has joined ambitious League Two side Wrexham on a season-long loan.
The highly-rated stopper was swayed to make the move by the exciting project at the Racecourse Ground, funded by the club’s Hollywood owners.
The 21-year-old is expected to take on the number one spot in Phil Parkinson’s team following the recent retirement of Ben Foster.
Okonkwo has one year left on his current Gunners contract, but is expected to be handed a new deal.
Maupay back where he Bee-longs
Neal Maupay sealed a surprise return to Brentford on deadline day, and then revealed that it feels like he’d never been away.
The Everton striker moved back to his former club on loan after the Bees saw a £34m swoop for PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko collapse.
“It feels like I never left,” Maupay told the Brentford website.
“I’ve always followed the club and been in touch with the manager and some of the players. It feels like home; it feels good to be here.
“The memories feel like yesterday. When I see the goals, I remember the atmosphere at Griffin Park.
“Brentford gave me my chance to play football in England. At the time I was just a young player, a kid, and now I’ve come back as a man.”
Saints raid Sunderland for Stewart
Southampton have boosted their chances of an immediate return to the Premier League with the £10m capture of Sunderland striker Ross Stewart.
The 27-year-old has swapped the Stadium of the Light for the south coast despite having not played since January due to an Achilles injury.
However, the Saints missed out on Stewart’s Sunderland teammate Patrick Roberts after seeing a £5m offer rejected.
Russell Martin’s charges were also able to hold on to striker Che Adams despite interest from Wolves and Crystal Palace.
Reds remain adamant on Salah
Liverpool rejected a £150m bid from Al-Ittihad for Mo Salah on deadline day – and then reiterated that their Egyptian star is not for sale.
The offer from the Saudi Pro League club was thought to be more than £100m up front with the rest due in add-ons.
The Reds are insistent that the dismissal of a deal is the end of the matter but Al-Ittihad could have other ideas.
The Saudi Arabian transfer window is still open for another week, meaning that the Anfield outfit may need to brace themselves for further bids for the 31-year-old.
