Traders are being urged to have their say on a proposals which could help boost the fortunes of a town centre.
Spalding Business Board has put together a plan which it hopes will attract more visitors by putting on a host of events, such as a motorcycle rally, along with improving the town’s image.
The board was set up following an open meeting about the creation of Business Improvement District (BID) earlier this year and is being funded by the South Holland District Council as part of the Spalding Town Centre Improvement Plan. If the BID goes ahead, firms in the town centre would be asked to pay a levy to fund improvements.
Now a consultation is being held on the draft business plan – and firms have until December 31 to take part.
Craig Delaney, chairman of the Spalding Business Board, said: “’It is important that the wider business community in Spalding Town Centre have their say in relation to the Draft Business Plan and the projects outlined within it.

“We need to ensure that our any improvements that we undertake addresses real issues. It will help formulate our plans not just in terms of a potential Spalding BID but also help us engage on behalf of businesses on larger amounts of funding Spalding has received recently such as the £20million from the Long Term Town Plan Fund.”
The business plan talks of creating a cleaner environment with more litter bins as well as landscaping and a ‘better managed pedestrianised area’.
Other ideas include tourist trails, a better relationship with Springfields and ‘general, food, craft and continental’ markets.
There’s also an aspiration for a ‘high-quality calendar of events’, with Spalding Flower Parade, a Christmas Fayre, Easter Parade, street food, music festival, late night shopping, car/motorcycle rally, and ‘cycling’ mentioned.
The board has also issued its first newsletter which has been distributed to firms across the town centre.
This not only discusses the business plan but also makes a case for the BID.
