Mumbai, India – The 16th Edition of TiEcon Mumbai, organized by TiE Mumbai, culminated on an enthusiastic note at the Jio Convention Centre, BKC, with a resounding call to build an Anti-Fragile and Sustainable India. The conference, attended by over 3,000 entrepreneurs, featured marquee speakers who focused on accelerating growth, driving intelligent engagement, making conscious choices, and empowering sustainable business building ideas.

Ranu Vohra, President of TiE Mumbai, highlighted the energy and vibrancy of the startup ecosystem at TiECon 2023. The discussions centered around Mumbai’s roadmap to becoming the startup hub, the role of Generation AI in India, and the resulting opportunities. Vohra noted, “The session on funding availability held out promise that as the startups become ‘anti-fragile’ and focus on unit economics and profitability, we should see a renewed increase in funding possibilities. The highly anticipated BCG report on the ecosystem was very well received and spoke about the inherent changes, including cultural changes required to bring about sustainability in the startup ecosystem.”

Apoorva Sharma, President-Elect of TiE Mumbai, emphasized the importance of customer-centricity, thinking differently, and leveraging technology, data, and AI for a competitive edge. Sharma stated, “Successful entrepreneurship is a marathon and not a sprint. VCs are looking to invest in founders who are passionate and have a differentiated product/service with expertise.”

India, as a focal point of innovation, is poised to become a $5 trillion economy by 2027. The country boasts the third-largest ecosystem of climate tech organizations globally. Startups play a vital role in India’s digital transformation, with Generation AI projected to deliver breakthrough productivity gains and disrupt digital businesses on a massive scale.

During the summit, a comprehensive report titled “Era of Resilient Growth?” was launched by BCG. The report highlighted several key findings, including the macroeconomic and funding environment both globally and in India. While overall funding levels have decreased in recent years, funding in seed/early stages remains robust. India is performing well, with a higher share of investments in the Asia-Pacific region. Investors are increasingly favoring profitable companies or those with a clearer path to profitability. The report also identified over 20 segments across B2B and B2C where large opportunities exist for startups.

The conference brought together leaders from business, academia, and civil society to discuss building an anti-fragile India. The speakers underscored the importance of resilience, inclusivity, innovation, and environmental protection in shaping a sustainable future. The event featured power-packed panel discussions, insightful workshops, and masterclasses on building high-growth products. Additionally, more than 140 curated startups showcased their innovative products, highlighting India’s entrepreneurial spirit.

Reflecting on the conference, Ranu Vohra expressed gratitude to the community for their wholehearted participation. He said, “We are overwhelmed by the positive feedback from entrepreneurs and want to thank the community for their enthusiastic involvement.”
