FRANKFURT, Germany: Business Insider has reported that after reaching a production level of 5,000 electric vehicles per week in March, Tesla’s German plant lowered its production target to 4,350 per week in July and August, and plans to reduce it further.
In late March, the US electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer said that it assembled 5,000 cars per week at the plant in Gruenheide near Berlin, but this was considered a one-off and average output has since been \lower, the article said.
Despite claiming that its production targets were on track in June, the company announced that it was hiring fewer temporary workers, as they were no longer needed.
Business Insider reported that Tesla lowered its target for July and August to 870 cars per day, but this goal was not always reached, with just 692 cars being assembled on 25th July and 806 on 28th July.
The factory target had since been adjusted further down to 750 cars per day, amounting to fewer than 4,000 autos per week, the article added.
Tesla did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
In July, Tesla said it will expand the Gruenheide factory’s capacity to 1 million cars annually, but it did not comment on when it would reach 6,000 cars a week at the plant.
Output hit 4,000 cars per week in late February, but this appears to have slowed since then, according to the Business Insider report.
