Best known for launching the Toronto Blue Jays with his team at Labatt’s Brewery, McDougall was appointed for his ‘visionary leadership, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy’
It’s another home run for Stratford business-legend Don McDougall.
Citing his visionary leadership, entrepreneurship, and philanthropy, McDougall has been appointed to the Order of Canada.
McDougall is best known for his time as president of Labatt’s Brewery. Under his leadership, the London-based brewery successfully launched the Toronto Blue Jays in 1976. McDougall was the club’s founding director.
He has also been in leadership roles at other organizations. He bought and built-up Novatronics, was president of Rambri Management Inc. and Accuform Golf.
Additionally, McDougall has served on several boards, including the University of Waterloo Stratford campus advisory board, Air Ontario, Stratford Festival and the advisory board of Ivy Business School in London.
Originally hailing from the Maritimes, McDougall now splits his time between Stratford, his home province of Prince Edward Island, and Florida.
This is the second award McDougall has won recently for his business acumen. He was the winner of this year’s Stratford and District Chamber of Commerce business leader award.
Since its creation in 1967, the Order of Canada has shone a light on close to 8,000 people whose service has shaped the nation. It is one of the country’s highest honours.
“Today, we recognize individuals who have made an extraordinary contribution to our society,” Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, said in a media release. “A group of individuals who, through dedication and ajuinnata – perseverance – make our communities and our country better every day.”
McDougall is one of the 85 new appointments this year.
