Stock Market LIVE: Sensex vaults 500 pts; Zomato zooms 5%, Paytm slips 2%

Stock market LIVE updates: Th rebound in global equities entered third day Monday as last Friday’s lower-than-expected jobs data in the US reignited hopes that the Fed will abstain from hiking rates going ahead. The S&P BSE Sensex rallied 500 points to 64,865 levels. The Nifty50, on the other hand, was up 150 points at 19,380. 

Axis Bank, Larsen & Toubro, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserve and Tata Steel were the prominent movers among the Sensex 30 shares.  

In the broader markets, the BSE MidCap index gained 0.8 per cent, while the SmallCap surged 1.2 per cent. 

Among sectors, the Nifty Realty index clocked gains of 1.5 per cent, followed by the Nifty Metal index (up 0.8 per cent), and Nifty Private bank index (up 0.6 per cent). On the downside, the Nifty PSU Bank index fell 0.5 per cent. Elsewhere in Asia, South Korea’s Kospi zoomed 5.7 per cent after the country re-imposed a full ban on short-selling for about eight months till June next year. The move is aimed at weeding out illegal use of short-selling to curb market turmoil.
