TORONTO — The Steelworkers Humanity Fund (SHF) is donating $10,000 to Oxfam Canada to support civilians in Gaza who are currently at risk of starvation and lack medical assistance, in what Oxfam has described as a humanitarian catastrophe.
“Amid the crisis unfolding, it is critical that we support the hundreds of thousands of civilians who have been caught amid this conflict, and who lack access to the basic necessities of life,” said Marty Warren, SHF President and National Director of the United Steelworkers union (USW) for Canada.

Oxfam has been working in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Israel since the 1950s. The charity operates in the most vulnerable communities in Gaza, East Jerusalem, and the West Bank, in partnership with over 60 Palestinian and Israeli organizations. Until a ceasefire is declared, Oxfam is preparing in every way it can to be ready to act once it is safe to do so.
Founded in 1985, the Steelworkers Humanity Fund is a registered charitable organization that focuses primarily on development projects and emergency aid in developing countries but also supports Canadian communities. USW members contribute to the fund through clauses negotiated into collective agreements. In some cases, employers make matching contributions to the fund.
