Stakeholders at the just concluded Africa Space Economy Conference & Exhibition have appealed to the Bank of Industry (BOI) to make funds more accessible to investors in the space ecosystem for the benefit of the country.
They challenged relevant authorities to ensure that data usage is secured to check fraud.
Director, Centre for Space Innovation and Development (CSD) and member of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Dr. Muhammed Haruna, communicated the resolutions while reading the communiqué issued at the end of the conference, yesterday, in Abuja.
According to him, other issues raised include a call to the Federal Government of Nigeria to establish a bank for innovators and start-ups in the space industry, the need to bring together the business communities, technocrats and scientists to enable a more elaborate event next year and the need to capture the indigenous experts’ system through local efforts.
Meanwhile, Executive Director of Policy Advocacy, Abuja Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ACCI), Dr. Chidi Onwumere, has reiterated that Nigeria and Africa must get involved in the business part of the space ecosystem.
The continent, he observed, can no longer wait to tap into the $563 billion businesses now available in space technology, adding, ‘”Nigeria and the rest of Africa must explore this opportunity now available in that sector to further grow her economies.”
Also speaking, the LOC Chairman, Osi Imomoh, noted that the quick take-off from the conference showcased the presence of investors marketing the space industry, who turned out in their numbers.
