Your Role:

The objectives of the role are to provide Senior Management with robust forecasts and key performance metrics to develop a deep understanding of the markets and competitive landscape where we compete in order to capitalize on opportunities and minimize risks in pursuit of the organization’s business objectives.  This individual will support a systematic, standardized forecasting approach to create short and long term, market-based and event driven revenue forecast models for commercial products, pipeline candidates and new business opportunities.  This position will report to the Associate Director, Forecasting and Performance Metrics, part of the EMD Serono Business Excellence department.  This individual will act as a partner who contributes to business performance with joint accountability with other functions for value maximization via forecasting.

 

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

 Forecasting:

  • Lead revenue forecasting for US Fertility and Endocrinology assets (5 in-line brands) – projects span commercially marketed products, internal pipeline candidates, new business opportunities, annual strategic planning and portfolio review processes
  • Lead the development of comprehensive, transparent, and standardized forecasting models that meet the business needs, based on statistical models of historic time-series, patient models and causal methods
  • Lead short term annual forecast (OP and quarterly updates F0/F1/F2/F2) as well as long-term forecasts (SD) for Fertility and Endocrinology brands
  • Ensure the robustness and credibility of forecasts by:
  • Appropriately utilizing relevant and robust secondary data inputs
  • Ensuring deep understanding of primary market research both to influence research design and to appropriately utilize research output
  • Developing criteria to evaluate various data inputs (syndicated demand, trade, etc.) to improve predictive value of forecasts
  • Validating and consolidating Competitive Intelligence information with Medical and Commercial teams
  • Proactive and significant level of influence on data interpretation and forecast ranges – identifying and sharing likelihood on extend of risk and opportunities
  • Lead collaboration with cross-functional teams to review forecast assumptions; maintain consistency and transparency of assumptions by implementing discipline with stakeholders, examining and challenging the robustness of all assumptions
  • Lead larger meetings, able to manage multiple and senior level stakeholder viewpoints
  • Provide guidance in the interpretation of revenue forecasts, identify potential risks and opportunities for senior management, and enable internal clients to make appropriate strategic and tactical business decisions
  • Advance learnings on current industry best practices for forecasting and quantitative business analysis – develop expertise to embed in the company
  • Advance data analysis to generate insights and share perspective on shares implications to the business (i.e. forecasts, revenue, etc)
  • Foster innovation by generating new ideas and sharing broadly – recommending solid steps for implementation
  • Effective and proactive project planning for SD and OP which runs across several months and have key milestones that must be met

 

Performance Metrics and Business Analysis:

  • Provide clear, thorough and consistent analysis regarding market trends, product performance, market opportunities, potential risks
  • Lead monthly KPI cross-functional team meetings synthesizing data and analysis and highlight key insights of performance.  Work with the Fertility and Endocrinology commercial team, Market Insights and Competitive Intelligence , Commercial Analytics, Market Access and Customer Solutions, Finance and Supply Chain to gain a complete and thorough understanding of EMD Serono’s products
  • Drive Senior Management education and understanding to foster informed decision making, ensuring data-driven decisions based on robust and complex analyses, particularly in areas where data is difficult to assess/unreliable and a high level of analytical skill is required
    • Develop key performance metrics for brand that are aligned with strategy and design standard reports
    • Partner with commercial team and develop presentations for senior management; present own analysis to US Senior Management
  • Lead the evaluation, analysis, integration and correlation of available data sources such as secondary market audits, primary market research, competitive intelligence, sales analytics data, financial data, supply chain data, managed markets data

  

Who you are: 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/BA required, MBA preferred
  • 4+ years in forecasting with MBA

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Biotech/pharmaceutical or high-tech industry experience highly preferred
  • Previous experience in consulting, investment banking and/or commercial assessments for pharmaceutical/biotechnology area is a plus
  • Experience in analytical roles, with secondary data sources and modeling, including proficiency in designing and developing refined financial models to address uncertainty and alternate scenarios
  • Thorough understanding of various time-series and patient based forecasting techniques
  • Outstanding excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to influence others in a tactful and well-thought-out manner with supporting information and logic and through building and defending arguments, as well as listening and understanding a variety of perspectives, to reach a consensus of opinion
  • Ability to work constructively within a team environment and cross functionally
  • Broad business understanding and ability to apply principles of logic and critical thinking to a wide range of complex business issues
  • Ability to work under pressure, with tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to balance several on-going projects simultaneously
