Dumfries business boss Fiona Drennan has won a spec-tacular national prize just months after opening her first store.
The Wee Spec Shop owner scooped a national best dressed window award in the competition organised by MacEyewear who are the UK distributor of Bake Off star Dame Prue Leith’s eyewear, specsbyprue.
Fiona, 46, from Dumfries, who has 28 years experience in the optical industry, said: “We’ve only been opened since August and I run the business with my daughter, Maddison, who is 18.
“Business has been very good since we opened.
“I am delighted to win this award. We were only phoned last week to be told the news and they said that the first prize is £500 towards a holiday which is very nice.
“We sell the range of Prue Leith from Bake Off which are very popular and also do both ladies and gents in classic and funky styles.
“Glasses have become such a big fashion accessory nowadays and people are always looking for the latest funky trends.
“We don’t do eye tests and just do specs so people just need to bring their prescriptions in and that means we can cater for any budget.”
She added: “The name of the shop actually came from my uncle who suggested it, but then I discovered from my sister that there was the Wee Mobile Phone Shop next door and I went to speak to the owner and asked if he minded me calling mine the same.
“He said it was no bother and he was actually quite excited about it.”
Dame Prue Leith said after judging the competition: “The winner for me with the original, quirky and colourful display was The Wee Spec Shop. Congratulations.”
