Wrapping up Small Business Week on a celebratory note, the Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce Gala Awards were held on Oct. 20 at the Lacombe Memorial Centre.
This year’s sponsors included Lacombe Ford (title sponsor), the City of Lacombe (gold sponsor), Real Country 95.5 Red Deer (Entertainment sponsor), and Lacombe A&W (photo booth).
It also marked the first year that awards for Business of the Year were given out to the communities of Eckville, Clive, and Bentley.
“This summer, I had the tremendous opportunity to go around to most of the businesses within the Lacombe-Ponoka constituency,” said Jennifer Johnson, MLA for Lacombe-Ponoka.
“I saw first-hand the diversity that each business holds whether small, medium or large — you are all making a difference,” she said.
“The strength of a community is within its people, and there are some of the best ones right here in this room tonight.
“I want to thank you for what you do, and send all of my congratulations to all of the nominees and to our winners this evening.”
Edmonton-based comedian Howie Millier provided plenty of entertainment during the course of the evening, which also saw several awards handed down beginning with Young Entrepreneur of the Year (sponsored by Strand 360) which was won by Jonathan Luscombe of the Lacombe Pride Society.
The New Business of the Year award (Sponsored by NOWCO Home Hardware), went to Amazing Wonders Emporium.
The Home-based Business of the Year award (sponsored by Aging in Place Essentials Inc.) went to Savannah Severin of SASART, and the Small Business of the Year award (sponsored by the Lacombe Express) went to Wag’s Holistic Pet Nutrition.
Sponsored by Lacombe County, the Farm Family of the Year award was given to the Grose Family Farm.
Non-Profit of the Year (sponsored by Dawn Parent, Remax Real Estate Central Alberta-Lacombe) went to The Broom Tree Foundation.
Blindman Brewery landed the Large Business of the Year award, which was sponsored by Fortis Alberta.
Bentley Business of the Year is The Wooden Shoe—Gull Lake.
Pharmasave Clive won the Clive Business of the Year award, which was sponsored by the Village of Clive, and Eckville’s Business of the Year award was a tie between Bay 4 Promotional Printing and The Box Car Grill.
Dawn Parent took home the Lifetime Business Achievement award, which was sponsored by the City of Lacombe, and this year’s Customer Service of the Year award (sponsored by Echo Energy) went to Tami Schneider of NOWCO Home Hardware.
