In early 2021, Berks County resident Emily Kenniston was troubled by how the pandemic had financially decimated so many small businesses in Pennsylvania. As a pageant titleholder (then Mrs. Reading International), she was determined to use her platform to help in some way, and in February 2021, Small Business Spotlight was born. An original show that Kenniston created and also hosts and produces, SBS has aired regularly on BCTV for nearly 3 years, and has featured many small business owners whose businesses serve Berks County residents. Kenniston, who went on to hold the titles of Mrs. Pennsylvania Continental Worldwide (2023) and is the currently reigning Mrs. Ireland Continental Worldwide (2024), is both honored and humbled to have created a show that has generated free advertising to help many small business owners in her beloved hometown.
As the show approaches it’s third anniversary of being on the air, Kenniston will be selecting certain small businesses to feature in-depth on more than one episode, started with the award-winning Empire Home Center, which has locations in both Leesport and West Reading. A natural choice for the show’s first official multi-episode arc, Empire Home Center provides a one stop shopping experience for all homeowners who are wishing to renovate or redesign their homes, and Kenniston is eager to feature both the many services Empire offers customers, as well as the many product lines that they offer. Kenniston and her family are in the final stages of renovating their own home with many products from Empire, and she is also eager to share her perspective on the business as an employee and a happy customer herself.
Beginning in October 2023, don’t miss these exciting new episodes of Small Business Spotlight, and thank you for your continued support of small businesses in Berks County!
*Thank you to BCTV for choosing to partner with Small Business Spotlight, and for all of the assistance you have given to Berks County small business owners over the years by airing the show! We wouldn’t be able to help without your help!*
