Small business raising funds to keep up production of disability-friendly clothing

SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN)—The Sherman-based clothing company The Charlotte Letter is looking to raise $20,000 to keep up production of their unique clothing line.

The Charlotte Letter creates clothing designed for children with special needs that allows easy access for medical equipment, like GI tubes. Now, they have to raise funds to keep the business going.

“The money is going to be used for providing clothing to whatever children’s hospital, Cook’s Children’s Hospital, as well as helping take care of any expenses around the office,” co-founder Kameron Brooks said.

Kameron Brooks and his wife created The Charlotte Letter after seeing how normal children’s clothing couldn’t accommodate the needs of their daughter, Charlotte, who had multiple disabilities, including cerebral palsy. They’ve been in business for almost two years, and made an appearance on the runway at New York Fashion Week.

Without the money, Brooks says their options are reducing their staff, or change their company’s focus.

“If we don’t raise the funding, then we have to stop providing or producing clothing for kids with disabilities and make a pivot here,” Brooks said. “That pivot could look like the possibility of adding other clothing brands that are not tailored toward kids with disabilities.”
