Singapore named world’s top maritime centre for 10th straight year

The city edged 43 other global maritime hubs to clinch the title.

For the 10th consecutive year, Singapore has been crowned as the world’s top maritime centre, according to the latest edition of the XinhuaBaltic International Shipping Centre Development (ISCD) Index.

The index measures the performance of maritime locations on factors including cargo throughput, port facilities, maritime services, and business environment.

Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore chief executive Teo Eng Dih credited the support of its tripartite partners for Singapore’s ranking.

“We remain committed to fostering an environment that encourages enterprise, innovation, and talent development. We will continue our work with our partners to enhance Singapore’s connectivity, advance digitalisation efforts, and accelerate the decarbonisation of international shipping,” Teo said in a press statement.

Chee Hong Tat, acting minister for Transport and Senior Minister of State for Finance, said that Singapore will continue to grow its maritime industry to create more good jobs for our people, and make the city the global maritime hub of choice.”
