The Siemens Gamesa Hutchinson plant is gearing up to open once again. Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has begun the process to return the Hutchinson, Kansas nacelle facility to production.
“The facility is ramping back up for production,” said Andrew Luther, a spokesperson for the company. “Hiring and production will be done in phases as required by the manufacturing process.”
The company, which manufactures components of wind turbines, closed its doors in July. At the time, Siemens called the closures “hibernation.”
But recently, cars have returned to the parking lot of this once vibrant location.
“Siemens Gamesa plans to have initial production begin in the first half of the year,” Luther said.

“They were over the last few weeks calling some of the laid off workers back,” said Debra Teufel, the president and CEO of the Hutchinson/Reno County Chamber of Commerce. “They’re not to 100% of where they were previously, but things are looking up.”
Teufel expects the company to be ‘ramping up production’ by April. At the time of it’s closing, more than 90 workers were employed at the Hutchinson facility.
In February, the Siemens Gamesa announced that it plans to build a major offshore nacelle manufacturing facility in New York. This is subject to the company’s wind turbines being selected by the New York authorities.
The planned facility will be located at the Port of Coeymans and would create approximately 420 jobs in the Empire State and contribute to a significant part of the United States’ target of offshore wind power by 2030.
Siemens Gamesa, which started in Denmark but has its company headquarters in Spain, is a pioneer in the development and expansion of onshore wind energy. With more than 40 years of manufacturing experience in wind turbines, the company has placed their turbines in more than 90 countries across the globe, from Denmark to France to Germany to Taiwan.
