(ANSA) – ROME, OCT 21 – Shop openings in Italy are down by
half in the last 10 years, retail group Confesercenti’s
Observatory said Saturday.
“The high cost of living, the slowdown in consumption and
competition from large-scale distribution and the web are not
only accelerating the closure of businesses in commerce, but are
also causing new births to plummet,” it said.
For 2023, it is estimated that just over 20 thousand businesses
in the sector have pulled up the shutters, 8% less than in 2022
and the lowest number in the last ten years: in 2013 there were
over 44 thousand, more than double”. (ANSA).
