Sherman population surge heralds boost for small business

SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — Multi-million dollar projects are underway in Sherman, which means more people will soon be flocking to the city for new jobs.

That population surge has not gone unnoticed by Jeremy Roberts, owner of 903 Brewers.

“In 2021, when the City of Sherman lost all the water, we stepped up and we canned 40,000 cans of water. Did any other company do that? No; it was us,” he said.

Sherman’s current population of 45,000 could double in just the next five years.

“We’ve seen the growth coming for quite some time, but the announcement of Texas Instruments and GlobalWafers… you can drive around and see all the new home developments. It’s going to be a lot for us,” Roberts said.

Sarah McRae, tourism manager for Texoma’s biggest city, noted that Sherman has become a hub for some big companies already, along with shoppers from out of town.

“We get a lot of visitors each day in our office, and we have a lot of visitor materials to hand out to them that includes all of our really unique restaurants and shopping opportunities here in downtown, because that is the most unique part of our city,” McRae said.

Contractors are already hard at work preparing for this giant influx.

“Some of the construction we’ve had surrounding downtown, I think, now is kind of the perfect time to get in and open your business and get it going,” McRae said. “Then you’ll get to be a part of the growth with us. It’s just the perfect time to join in.”

And when they come, Roberts says, 903 Brewers will be ready.

“We are very excited for it. We are very prepared for it,” he said. “For a small business like us, this is how we continue to grow.”
