LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ. — Specialty ingredient supplier Sensus America is adding a new plant-based protein to its ingredient portfolio.

The Tendra Fava Protein Isolate is produced by Sensus’ sister company, Cosun Protein, using fava beans to provide high protein content in a highly soluble and easily emulsified format. Designed with plant-based dairy applications in mind, the protein also seeks to alleviate the difficulty in replicating the creamy texture of animal dairy products.

“We are excited to bring this product to our North American customers,” said Ken Horn, president and general manager of Sensus. “Tendra solves very real challenges for these manufacturers when it comes to taste and texture especially for plant-based dairy products.”

In addition to being non-GMO and gluten-free, Tendra offers manufacturers a sustainable protein input, with fava beans naturally having very low carbon dioxide output and water usage requirements.

“Sustainably unlocking the full potential of plants into valuable plant solutions is incredibly important to us,” said Thijs Bosch, director of Cosun Protein. “The launch of Tendra really showcases our capabilities with its superior taste, texture and sustainable profile for dairy alternative products.”
