Lionsgate has announced that the 11th feature-length installment in the Saw franchise is set to hit theaters next September.
On Instagram, the official Saw account shared a teaser poster confirming that Saw XI will open on September 27, 2024. The minimalist poster features the ominous tagline, “The game continues.” This announcement follows the theatrical release of Saw X, which premiered this past September to positive reviews.
The Saw franchise so far
Saw began life as a 2003 horror short film written by James Wan and Leigh Whannell and directed by Wan. Wan and Whannell adapted the short into a feature film of the same name, which hit theaters in 2004 from Lionsgate. Six sequels released annually through 2010.
While 2010’s Saw 3D was billed as “The Final Chapter,” the franchise returned for an eighth feature film, titled Jigsaw, in 2017. A ninth entry titled Spiral released in 2021. Then, earlier this year, Tobin Bell reprised his role as John “Jigsaw” Kramer for Saw X, a new film set between the events of 2004’s Saw and 2005’s Saw II.
Kevin Greutert — who previously helmed 2009’s Saw VI and 2010’s Saw 3D — directed Saw X from a screenplay by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger. The film made $107.7 million worldwide against a production budget of $13 million.
Saw XI opens in theaters on September 27, 2024.
