Santanché willing to clarify business claims – Meloni – English

(ANSA) – ROME, JUN 24 – The government is “tranquil” because
Tourism Minister Daniela Santanché has vowed willingness to
clear up allegations made against her business activities,
Premier Girogia Meloni said Saturday.

“I think there is no problem with (Santanché) reporting to
Parliament, it is a legitimate request from Parliament. I am
happy that Minister Santanché has given her availability, I have
seen her calm in these hours as I am calm”, Meloni said at the
end of the Europa Forum Wachau in southern Austria.

Government party the League on Friday asked Santanché to report
to parliament over TV investigative show Report’s claims that
she had run businesses that allegedly failed to pay suppliers
and dismissed workers without giving them redundancy payments
that were due to them.

Santanché, a 62-year-old member of Meloni’s rightwing Brothers
of Italy (FdI) party, said the show’s reportage was “devoid of
correspondence to historical truth” and she had told her lawyers
to sue.

Opposition politicians have called on Santanché to quit over the
allegations or, failing that, for Meloni to sack her. (ANSA).
