An iconic annual beer festival has been ‘cancelled’ – due to issues with its venue. CAMRA Potteries Branch has scrapped the 40th Stoke Beer & Cider Festival which had been due to take place this October.
Officials have told supporters that issues regarding toilets and fire escapes have meant this year’s festival could not go ahead at the Meadows Building within the former Spode factory, in Stoke. Instead plans have been submitted for a scaled-down festival in Burslem.
Now a decision on the scaled-down festival is expected to be made following a meeting on Thursday.
In a social media post to supporters, festival organiser Andy Parkin states: “Due to unforeseen circumstances regarding the Meadows Building we have cancelled the 40th Stoke Beer & Cider Festival. Nonetheless we will endeavour to hold our 40th Stoke Beer & Cider Festival in October 2024.
“However we have submitted a new business plan to CAMRA head office for a scaled-down Stoke Beer Festival in Burslem in the traditional format from October 19 to 21. It is anticipated that at our next beer festival planning meeting we should know the outcome of our business plans.”
