Ryanair has reported increases in traffic and load factor in April, despite disruption caused by industrial action in France, the carrier announced on Wednesday (3 May).
The budget carrier saw a 13 per cent month-to-month increase in traffic after serving 16 million travellers in April, while load factor increased three percentage points to 94 per cent.
Ryanair operated more than 89,650 flights last month, but reported more than 650 flights (equating to approximately 118,000 travellers) were cancelled after transport workers in France walked out as part of a series of strikes held in protest of plans by the French government to increase the pension age from 62 to 64.
To minimise disruption, French civil aviation regulator DGAC on 6 April had asked airlines to reduce their flights by 20 to 25 per cent at some French airports.
The Ireland-based budget carrier, meanwhile, is set to expand its European market share this summer, with plans to introduce 14 short-haul routes from its Dublin base, and 12 new services from Italy’s Venice Marco Polo Airport.
