Ryanair will add three new Boeing 737 8200 “game changer” aircraft to its fleet based at London Luton Airport, the carrier announced on Thursday (27 April).

According to the low-cost carrier, the new aircraft will reduce its Co2 emissions at the airport by 16 per cent, while delivering four per cent more passenger capacity per aircraft.

The carrier will operate more than 140 weekly flights across 27 routes from London Luton Airport during the 2023 summer season, including nine new routes to Bezier, Bologna, Malta and Seville.

Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson said the “significant investment” forms part of a longer-term strategy between Ryanair and the airport’s management team to deliver sustainable growth.

London Luton Airport chief commercial officer Jonathan Rayner added: “As well as our commitment to achieve Net Zero Carbon for our own airport emissions by 2040, we are working closely with our airlines to reduce their emissions and Ryanair’s investment in these next generation aircraft is an exciting development that underlines its commitment to working sustainably with LLA.”
