Since becoming established as a BID nearly 15 years ago, members of Royston First have been pooling an annual levy, and are now invited to vote ‘yes’ to ensure the BID’s planned improvements and projects can continue.
David Smyth, chair of Royston First BID, said: “Like all towns and cities across the UK, Royston has experienced unparalleled challenges with the impact of the pandemic, the growth of online shopping, and now the cost-of-living crisis.
“Covid-19 exemplified the value the BID offers in responding quickly to dramatic changes in our trading landscape.”
The BID levy fund has allowed support for a range of projects such as the annual Christmas lights switch-on, the children’s trails, increased communication among businesses and reviving four large poster sites in the town centre.
They have also introduced the ‘Free After Three’ and scratch card parking schemes.
“As we look forward, there are many planned exciting projects to come,” David continued.

“We have consulted with our members and developed a robust business plan for the next five years, ensuring that business owners’ priorities and key challenges are addressed, and needs are met.
“The Business Plan will be sent in the post to all members and a copy is also available to view on our website roystonfirst.com.
“The BID Ballot next month is a crucial phase for the future of Royston’s business landscape. Only a ‘YES!’ vote by November 30, 2023 will ensure that we can continue projects and further improve Royston through a vote to deliver a fourth five-year term.
“Without the BID, all the services provided will cease to exist.
“We hope that Royston First BID will be able to commit to another five years working with businesses for a better Royston.”
All eligible BID members should receive ballot papers via post by Friday, November 3. If ballot papers are not received in time, contact BID manager Paul Brown.
The vote closes on November 30, with results declared on December 1.
