Rochester Cocktail Revival kicks off tenth iteration. What caught our eye this year

The Rochester Cocktail Revival, an annual celebration of craft cocktails, will hold its tenth annual iteration from June 5 to 11. The weeklong festival will include more than 75 events at more than 25 bars and arts venues in downtown Rochester.

Here are some of the events that caught our eye:

Breaking the Barriers: Connecting you to your Deaf Customers: Noon on June 5 at the Jackrabbit Club, 40 Anderson Ave. During this seminar, Joshua Mora and Blake Nitko of TRUBIZ Connections will share personal stories, insightful tips, and case studies to inspire hospitality establishments to create more meaningful connections with the Deaf community and offer practical strategies to be more accessible. Free.

At Every Level: a Chat with Three Women in the Spirits Industry: 1:30 p.m. June 5 at Jackrabbit Club, 40 Anderson Ave. Hear from three women in different positions within the distilling industry: Lorna Conrad, operations manager at Widow Jane Distilling Company in Brooklyn; Elle Rhodes, national director of sales for Du Nord Social Spirits in Minneapolis; and Devon Trevathan, cofounder and co-owner of Liba Spirits in Rochester. Rhodes is also the cofounder of Brewing Change Collaborative, an organization that fosters diversity, equity and inclusion in the industry. They’ll speak on their experiences in the industry and offer tastings of some of their spirits. Free.

Sons of Mezcal: Screening and Talk, 7 p.m. June 7 at The Little Theatre, 240 East Ave. From director Stephan Werk and Rochester-born editor Danny Doran, this documentary chronicles agave production in a new way by following four families passing their traditions onto the next generation. Sample agave from the brands featured in the film. A brief talk with Werk and Doran, moderated by Linda Moroney of the One Take Doc Series, will follow the film, along with an after party at Lucky’s at 9 p.m. The talk will be ASL-interpreted. $14.64.

Bacchanalia: An Immersive Theatre Experience , 7:30 p.m. June 9 at The Historic German House, 315 Gregory St. This interactive drama will whisk attendees into a world of revelrous whimsy, where they become part of a Greek celebration while sipping custom cocktails. The original 30-minute production was written for the Rochester Cocktail Revival by The Company Theater. Togas welcome, but not required. Two drinks included with each ticket. 21+ only. $44.52.

The Rochester Cocktail Revival held a Spirit Tasting Spectacular at The Metropolitan, 1 S. Clinton Ave.

The Spirit Tasting Spectacular, 11 a.m. June 10 at The Metropolitan, 1 S. Clinton Ave. Taste through more than 30 craft spirits, including national and New York State distillers. Entry includes samples of up to 16 spirits. A cash bar featuring drink specials and bar snacks will be available at Bar Bantam in the lobby. $25 at the door. 21+ only.

Call Me New-Fashioned: A Seminar with Robert Simonson 11 a.m. June 10 at Good Luck, 40 Anderson Ave. Tommy’s margarita, the espresso martini and the paper plane are all modern classic cocktails, created and popularized in our lifetime. But how did they get there? What does it take to become a modern classic and join the ranks of time-honored classic cocktails? New York Times cocktail and spirits writer Robert Simonson explores the stories behind the most popular drinks to come out of the Second Golden Age of Cocktails. Event will be ASL-interpreted. $19.

The Bar Room Battle Royale, 5 p.m. June 11 at Radio social, 20 Carlson Road. Bartenders from around the city will go shaker-to-shaker to claim mixological supremacy. Ticket price includes admission to the Bar Ninja competition and spirit tasting tables. Drink specials and snacks from Radio Social will be available. The event will be set to a live soundtrack by DJ Chreath. $25 at the door.

Participating bars of the 2023 Rochester Cocktail Revival include Bar Bantam, Bitter Honey, Branca Midtown, Cub Room, Cure, The Daily Refresher, Good Luck, Grace & Disgrace, Lento, Leonore’s, Locals Only, Lucky’s, Native, Nosh, Owl House, Ox & Stone, The Playhouse, Radio Social, Recreo, Redd, The Revelry, Roux, Swan Dive, Tapas, Velvet Belly, Vern’s and Ziggy’s.

A portion of all proceeds benefits Cancer Support Community at Gilda’s Club Rochester, which offers free support to men, women, teens and children affected by cancer. Since 2014, the festival has raised more than $150,000 for the organization.
