Rhoda “Ann” Campbell, 101, of Quincy Village, Quincy, Pennsylvania, passed away on March 8, 2023 at her retirement home.

Born May 15, 1921 in Belleville on the Campbell family farm, she was the oldest daughter of former Mifflin County Commissioner, Frank L. Campbell, and Susan Margaret (Kearns) Campbell of Belleville and Vira, respectively.

Ann is survived by brother, John Douglas Campbell of Lancaster; and sister Susan Margaret Shell of Cashmere, Washington; and sisters-in-law Constance Campbell of Lancaster and Sigrid Campbell of Georgetown, Texas. In addition, she is survived by three nieces, three nephews, eight grand nieces, and three grand nephews.

Ann was predeceased by her parents, and brother, Joseph Kearns Campbell, and brother-in-law Richard Shell.

She was a graduate of Belleville High School and was a proud member of the Class of 1939. After graduation, Ann worked for the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia as a secretary. Upon the outbreak of World War II, she enlisted in the US Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service). She served the duration of the War in Naval Communications in Washington, D.C. While in Washington Ann worked with US Navy Ensign Jimmy Carter. She often remarked that she and her co-workers were surprised by how his life led him to become President.

After World War II, Ann earned her BS degree in Business Administration from Syracuse University and, later, her MBA from Drexel University. She was with the General Electric Company for over 32 years, having worked in Syracuse, NY, King of Prussia, PA, and Schenectady, NY in a variety of managerial roles. While at GE she worked on several projects with Jack Welch who would later become CEO. After retirement in 1984 she moved to Cary, NC and resided there while working contract and volunteer administrative roles for local businesses and the local Presbyterian Church. In 1994 she moved to Quincy Village in Quincy, PA and was a member of the Waynesboro Presbyterian Church. Ann enjoyed travelling and has seen most of Western Europe, Hungary, Czech Republic, Russia, South America, Costa Rica, Mexico, Bermuda, the Philippines, Eastern Canada, the Canadian Rockies, and most of the US National Parks. She was an avid bridge player and also enjoyed reading, walking, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and collecting artwork of owls. In the 1950’s, Ann began skiing which took her to such places as Aspen, Vail, Sun Valley, Jackson Hole, Taos, Alta, Stowe, Sugarloaf, Mt. Tremblant, Austria, Switzerland, France, and Italy. She also spent many weekends in Vermont with the Buck Ridge Ski Club of Delaware County, PA.

Her memorial service will be held on Monday, 11AM, June 12 at West Kishacoquillas Presbyterian Church, 3820 West Main Street, Belleville with Pastor Ela Robertson officiating. The burial will take place at Machpelah Cemetery in the family plot following the service. Her family will receive friends from 10:30 until the time of service at the church on Monday.
