Prime Concepts Detroit parent company Barbat Holdings, based in West Bloomfield, purchased the property that previously housed a Ciao Italian Bistro & Wine Bar that closed during the COVID-19 pandemic. The group plans a complete renovation of the 8,500-square-foot space and will add custom murals and commissioned artwork. Royal Oak-based Art Harrison Interiors is handling interior design work.

“We’re very excited to bring Aurora Italiana to the metro Detroit dining scene,” Barbat Holdings Chair and CEO Joe Barbat said in the release. “Our guests are going to be amazed by this upscale dining experience, paired with stunning and unique décor, exceptional entertainment and, of course, our shareable moments. We want to provide an unforgettable experience that is high-energy and memorable for all.”

Aurora Italiana will also feature a banquet facility for up to 350 guests. The space will include a private bar, lounge seating, flexible floorplan, private valet parking, full audio-visual capabilities, private restrooms and custom menus.

Prime Concepts Detroit also operates Tribu Mediterranean and Wabeek Country Club, both in West Bloomfield. Barbat Holdings recently completed $10 million in renovations to Wabeek, which it purchased in 2019.

Joe Barbat is a developer who recently purchased the Grand Army of the Republic building in downtown Detroit. Barbat plans to announce later this spring plans for a two-story restaurant in the space.
