(ANSA) – ROME, NOV 22 – Italy’s privacy watchdog on Wednesday
opened a probe into data collection to train Artificial
Intelligence algorithms in Italy.

The Guarantor for the Protection of Personal Data launched a
fact-finding investigation on public and private websites to
verify the adoption of adequate security measures to prevent the
massive collection (web-scraping) of personal data for the
purpose of training artificial intelligence algorithms by third
parties.

The probe, it said, concerns all public and private subjects,
operating as data controllers, established in Italy or offering
services in Italy, which make personal data freely accessible
on-line also by the ‘spiders’ of the producers of algorithms.
