(ANSA) – ROME, JUL 1 – Benedetto Mineo, the head of Italy’s
price-monitoring watchdog, has summoned the air companies
running services on the domestic routes that have experienced
sharp price rises recently to an encounter on Tuesday, the
business and Made in Italy (MIMIT) ministry said on Saturday.
The meeting will make it possible to analyse the flight ticket
dynamics in view of the establishment of a price-alert
committee, the ministry said.
Consumer association Codacons, which recently got the Antitrust
authority to open a probe into the price of flights between the
mainland and Sicily, welcomed the move.
“The government is right to call up the airlines to verify what
is happening with flight prices,” said Codacons President Carlo
Rienzi.
“We have been saying for months that the air-sector prices are
out of control.
“We consider the price trends in the air-transport sector to be
absolutely unjustified and they are a huge damage to citizens,
especially in the period of the summer departures”. (ANSA).
